| spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Objective: To determine the prevalence of malignancy in thyroid nodules with a cytological categorization report from the Bethesda III and IV system in patients undergoing total or subtotal thyroidectomy at a hemato-oncology reference center in the city of Barranquilla in the period between the years 2018 to 2021. Methodology: Descriptive study, in which the clinical histories of patients with cytological categorization of the Bethesda III and IV system and who underwent total or subtotal thyroidectomy were reviewed retrospectively at the health service provider institution under study in the city of Barranquilla. in the period between 2018 and 2021. Demographic variables and clinical variables related to ultrasound, cytological, pathological findings and medical-surgical interventions were studied. Results: 107 thyroid nodules from 107 patients with FNA Bethesda III and IV reports were studied. In the nodules reported as Bethesda III, a malignancy rate of 32.7% was obtained, while in those reported as Bethesda IV, a malignancy rate of 50.9% was evidenced. Conclusion: Our study obtained rates of malignancy and incidence with respect to sex that are consistent with what has been published in the world literature, reaffirming the great importance of the Bethesda system as a diagnostic approach tool for patients with thyroid nodule. | spa |
